Dr. Burton L. Abel, OD

Dr. Abel is a native of North Central West Virginia. He currently practices in the Bridgeport, Buckhannon and Morgantown locations each week. He practices full-scope primary care optometry including pediatrics, geriatrics, contact lens fitting and treatment and management of ocular disease.

In May of 2001, Dr. Abel received his undergraduate degree, a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry, at Wheeling Jesuit University in Wheeling, WV. Dr. Abel was accepted at the Pennsylvania College of Optometry in Philadelphia, receiving his Doctor of Optometry degree May 2005. While at PCO, he was a member of the first class to graduate under the innovative Curriculum 2000 which provides the most extensive, cutting edge education available. Dr. Abel completed internships in glaucoma specialty, low vision care, pediatrics, ocular disease and primary care optometry.

Dr. Abel successfully completed an internship rotation at the Clarksburg Veteran’s Administration Medical Center during the fall and winter of 2004-2005. While here he managed patients with multiple medical conditions and extensive ocular disease as well. Dr. Abel was part of a multi-faceted medical team ordering lab testing and consultations.

Dr. Abel holds a license to practice in West Virginia including expanded diagnostic and therapeutic ocular and systemic medications. He is a member in good standing of the American Optometric Association, AOA Contact Lens and Cornea Section and the West Virginia Optometric Association.
